Domestic travel
The new frontier
Oct 16th, 2020 by team travelbitty
As it happens, March of 2020 may have been the worst time to launch a travel website since the creation of the internet. Covid-19 continues to be an uncontrolled threat to the travel industry, more than eight months into the crisis. No one is scrambling to board an airplane or stay in a busy hotel. We cancelled multiple flights and trips over these past months. Despite these facts, the desire for new experiences has not changed, and the lack of travel during this time means plenty of pent-up demand afterward. With shutdowns affecting the economy and the loss of many jobs, saving money may also be a decision in travel planning. These factors make domestic travel the best option for the year ahead.
The more adventurous of us have learned to travel within our bubble to low-case destinations within driving distance. Camping and outdoor activities have taken place of more crowded urban destinations. Many travelers are learning there is plenty to experience even within a few hundred miles of their homes. A great option is rent a house near outdoor activities like hiking and sightseeing. By renting a house, you can limit your exposure to other vacationers, bring and cook your own food, and generally be in a less crowded area. By now, most restaurants and shops have figured out the best way to offer outdoor dining and limited shopping experiences to maintain your safety.
We’ve found some handy tips for domestic travel this year. Try to limit distance to as far as you can drive without stopping for gas or bathroom breaks. Research outdoor markets and activities still planned for winter. Invest in some cold-weather clothes and accessories. Always bring a set of earplugs, you never know when traffic, a fan, construction, or neighbors will impact your sleep wherever you stay. Bring high-quality facemasks like surgical and KN95s for entering shops or anywhere you will have exposure to others. And always bring a small bottle of hand sanitizer.
We encourage all Travelbitties to explore safely and stay healthy. With enough planning this fall and winter season, there is plenty to still see and enjoy even closer than you think!
